Here you see the beautiful interior painting that looks like sunrise colors in Oklahoma. You then go to the first floor that has the rotunda and chambers. You then visit a series of pictures and murals, some that are still being added. It starts in the new below ground visitor's center at the 1/3 replica of the statue on top of the dome. I am more used to seeing Capitols incorporated into the downtown of a city but here they are two separate districts.Īs for the interior, you can see it on a tour that really focuses on the art within the Capitol. Driving in from the north you see it and downtown standing apart above the low tree line. In fact the Capitol was moved here after the down began on a commanding hill just NE of downtown. This is one of the youngest states with a Capitol only just over 100 years old. However, it still sits on an active oil field with working derricks, which is so Oklahoma. The exterior now has a dome that was left unfinished for nearly 100 years. In fact, this Capitol is much different today than it was 20 years ago. This one is beautiful and the most colorful in its modern refurbishment. It was hard to pick a favorite because they all had such great things. I visited four states in the Great Plains and one thing in common is I went to all 4 Capitols.
